help homeless pets find their best friend!

When it launched in 2004, the PetRescue website was the first of its kind in Australia, and since then, it has been the connection for over 860,000 rescue pets and their new families.

PetRescue’s adoption platform gives pets the best chance to find a home by bringing thousands of homeless pets face-to-face with tens of thousands of potential adopters every day. And the best part is, all PetRescue website services and adoption support programs are free and accessible to all rescue members and pet lovers alike.

Archie: Our Beloved Companion

Monday 24th Jun
On May 3, 2020, we welcomed Archie from the Canterbury Bankstown Animal Shelter into our lives. Writing about Archie fills me with joy, as he has brought boundless love and laughter to our days.
Archie, a handsome foxhound with an insatiable zest for adventure, captured our hearts when we first discovered him on the Pet Rescue website during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. After enduring over five months of applications and numerous rejections in our quest for a puppy, finding Archie, who was then a year old, felt like a dream come true.
The day my husband and I met Archie at the shelter remains etched in my memory. Despite his large size and exuberant personality that had dissuaded other potential adopters, we instantly knew he was meant to be part of our family.
I vividly recall the day Archie came home. Unbeknownst to me, my husband had secretly returned to the shelter to complete all the adoption paperwork. On that May morning, he surprised me with the words, "Are you ready?" Confused yet excited, I asked, "Ready for what?" With a smile, he replied, "To bring home your new companion." In less than five minutes, I was ready to go. When we arrived at the shelter, Archie—then known as Cobi—eagerly greeted us, his joy palpable despite having undergone surgery the day before.
Watching Archie settle into his new home was both heartwarming and challenging. His strength and enthusiasm, while endearing, posed a physical challenge for me at my age (56), as he bounded around wanting to play.
The initial walks with Archie were quite the adventure. Unaccustomed to leash manners, he pulled my husband in all directions, eager to explore every scent. It took months of patient training and daily walks with my husband for Archie to learn proper behaviour.
Archie has developed a deep bond with my husband, whom he faithfully follows and sees as his guide. Their daily routine includes playful sessions in the garden or quiet moments together admiring our flowers.
Archie's love for long walks is unmatched. These outings not only satisfy his curiosity but also allow him to channel his abundant energy. His talent for turning anything, even a simple piece of wood, into a toy showcases his playful spirit and keeps us entertained.
Having Archie in our lives has been a true blessing. Through his playful nature and endless energy, he has taught us valuable lessons in patience, unconditional love, and the joy of living in the present moment.
I hope you've enjoyed reading about Archie's journey into our lives. Do you have a furry friend who has made a difference in your life? Share your stories and experiences in the comments below!
